Abbeyfeale Anglers’ Association is an alliance of anglers who are based on the river Feale. The club is centred in Abbeyfeale but has members from as far away as England. The fishing for the members includes a sizeable portion of the river between Abbeyfeale and Duagh. The club is affiliated nationally to Salmon and Sea Trout Recreational Anglers of Ireland(SSTRAI) which provides insurance cover for all members.
The chairman of the club, Paddy O Sullivan, is the chairman of SSTRAI and the secretary, D Dennison is the vice chairman. SSTRAI is affiliated to the Angling Council of Ireland(ACI). Bob Seward, the secretary of SSTRAI is the national representatives to the European Anglers Alliance and also to NASCO.
The angling season on the Feale opens on 1st March and closes on 30th September. Due to the massive drop in salmon numbers in the river, the season up to 14th May is confined to catch and release. From then to the end of the season there is a bag limit of three salmon in total.
The river also boasts white trout fishing, but the numbers here have dropped in the last number of years.
Visiting anglers are welcome and have a choice of day tickets or a weekly ticket.
